ADCs for MIMO, WiBro and WiMax
01 February 2007
Linear Technology (www.linear.com) has announced the LTC2285, 14bit, 125Msample/sec, dual, high speed ADC for MIMO (multiple input, multiple output) applications. It has a low power dissipation of 395mW/channel for power-efficient, multicarrier, wireless basestation transceiver applications.

(signal to noise ratio) and 78dB SFDR [spurious free dynamic range] at 140MHz mean it can be used in WiBro and WiMax standards applications. The smpling rate means that designers can capture wider channel bandwidths, enough to double the capacity of systems that can currently sample at 65Msample/sec.
The low power ADC is packaged in a 9mm x 9mm QFN package. A bypass capacitor is integrated, as is 50Ù series output matching.
The device can provide designers with a choice between 1V peak to peak or 2V peak to peak inputs. It also offers a data-ready clock-out pin for latching the output data buses and is optimised for undersampling signals up to 140MHz with a wide analogue input bandwidth of 640MHz. For down conversion signal chains,
the ADC can be used with the company’s LT5516 direct conversion quadrature demodulator and LT6402 300MHz low distortion, low noise ADC driver.
The company has also developed the 14bit LTC2285, the 10bit LTC2281, 125Msample/sec dual ADCs and the 12bit, 105Msample/sec LTC2283. They have been added to the company’s 3V family which range from 10 to 125Msample/sec. Pin compatibility creates easier upgrade. The ADCs provide a low crosstalk between channels value of 110dB. Demo boards are available for all ADCs.
