Laser clay pigeon shoot

25 March 2008

Shotguns use wireless transmitters so that up to five shooters can take aim at a single clay pigeon.

Don’t worry, it’s not as dangerous as it sounds. The guns are deactivated 12-bore shotguns which fire infra-red beans at reflective, re-useable clays (‘pigeons’) so anyone can play ‘country folk’ like Guy Ritchie and Madonna, day or night, indoors or outdoors.

Although Lasersport International has been manufacturing clay pigeon shooting guns and launchers for over a century, it now uses electronics for a safer, greener sport.

The launcher fires off the clays at adjustable angles and speeds to suit the skill of the shooter. Scores are displayed on an electronic scoreboard and all of this is communicated wirelessly via the radio transmitters supplied by LPRS. As all the electronics are stored in the shotgun, the wireless modules have to be compact and not add too much weight to the gun. The radio supplier provided CDP-TX-02E-R transmitter modules from Circuit Design, a low-power radio manufacturer. Typical range is 1km, enough for the most sharp-eyed sniper.
