Audio processors are evolving for HDTV and support post-sale software updates.

Designed specifically for HDTVs, Analog Devices has launched two audio processors; the ADAV4601 and ADAV4622.

The fully programmable processors support the latest audio standards used in HDTVs and enable TV manufacturers to add performance enhancements or remedy TV model hardware and software issues.

Furthermore, they offer the flexibility to customise subsystems and support multiple TV designs, from high-end to low-end, without system redesigns; reducing time-to-market by up to several weeks. The processors provide full support for digital and analogue baseband audio, as well as multi-standard analogue broadcast demodulation and decoding for worldwide broadcasting standards such as BTSC, EIAJ, A2-Korea, A2-Europe, and NICAM. The ADAV4622 includes an integrated broadcast audio processor with an auto-standard-detecting processor that also reduces design time and costs compared to external SIF circuitry for broadcast standard detection and switching.

These new models combine multi-channel, 24-bit analogue-to-digital converters, digital-to-analogue converters and an integrated multi-channel, pulse-width modulator to provide the subsystem functionality required for TV audio implementation. The addition of an external mute pin allows designers to provide pop/click reduction during system start-up, seamlessly change audio sources, and deliver high-quality audio for high-definition video. In addition, they offer features such as a dedicated TV audio flow that incorporates full matrix switching of any input to any output. There is also automatic volume control for compensating for volume changes during advertisements or when switching channels, dynamic bass, a multiband equaliser, and stereo delay memory for audio/video synchronisation.

The ADAV4601 and ADAV4622 audio processors are available now in full-production quantities.
