Traffic information can be recorded and transmitted live via a GSM network to track vehicles.

Telit Wireless Solutions and Xirgo Technologies have jointly developed the XT-2000 IntelliPort, a wireless car tracking device that lets users record and transmit live data via the Telit GE864 wireless car tracking device and a GSM network carrier.
The tracking device, measures 1.8in x 1.5in x 1in and weighs less than 2oz to fit in the ODB-II port, standard in vehicles built in North America since 1996 and located directly under a car dashboard. The IntelliPort also supports the five most widely used OBD-II protocols for monitoring location, status and diagnostic codes.
Xirgo developed the IntelliPort to after-market automotive specifications, and selected Telit’s GE864 QUAD wireless communications module as its small, compact and rugged design can be used in high-vibration and wide-temperature-range applications.
“The IntelliPort’s ability to track real-time driving and car diagnostic data could dramatically change auto leasing or rental financial models, not to mention drastically reduce vehicle recalls for auto manufacturers,” says Dominikus Hierl, President Telit Wireless Solutions.
