Software adds T&M to Visual Studio

Test and measurement functionality can be added to Microsoft’s development environment.

National Instruments has announced Measurement Suite 8.5 which has a set of .NET class libraries, tools and NI data acquisition driver support for Microsoft Visual Studio 2008. There is also pulse and transition measurement and analysis example code.

It has ASP.NET Ajax-compatible user interface controls and network variable communication functions for responsive web monitoring web applications. This can be used to create pages to be viewed form web-enabled devices, such as PDAs and smartphones.

Engineers can reduce deployment costs by adding functionality to existing projects without upgrading to a new .NET framework, as the development environment is not tied to a specific version of the .NET framework. Data acquisiton can be added to web and Windows projects, using the company’s NI-DAQmx driver support form Visual Studio 2008.

It also supports NI-SCOPE.NET drivers which include memory-optimised analogue waveform read operations that reuse memory allocated in previous functions and are claimed to improve the rate of acquisition for applications involving large amounts of data.

The amount of data transferred between the client and server can be reduced, using the compatible scientific controls of Measurement Studio and the Microsoft server controls. This reduction improves the web application performance in displaying data from dynamic sourcs like data acquisition devices, benchtop instruments and distributed I/O system or databases. Engineers can create and browse network variables which publish or subscribe to measurement data from dynamic sources as well as use the software to detect connection failures and to cleanse networks of variable buffers to optimise performance.

Over 100 text-based, data acquisition examples can be downloaded from the company’s website. Further time can be saved by copying example code snippets for more than 120 advanced analysis functions directly to applications.
