Single-chip DECT/CAT-iq CMOS

22 July 2008

A DECT/CAT-iq chip combines radio and baseband in Panasonic’s DECT cordless phones.

The SC14480 is claimed to be the world’s first monolithic integrated DECT/DCT device in standard CMOS. SiTel’s single-chip offering has flash memory, making it suitable for product development, production ramp-up or in applications requiring software upgrades, says the company. ROM/RAM variants are available as well as an LCD driver version.

The core provides enough processing power to run telephone answering machine voice compression, advanced ringtones and support the CAT-iq (cordless advanced technology – internet and quality) standard, which is distinguished by a superior voice quality. The SC14480 offers 8kHz voice enhancement and duplex echo cancelling for standard and wideband audio. It also enables text-to-speech services and Midi functionality including 32 voices, wave table and FM synthesis.

The monolithic device operates from two battery cells and has an integrated white LED driver to support higher voltages and reduce external components. There is also support for a Li-Ion battery, for headset use.
