Crosspoint switches reduce in-car power
16 September 2008
Automotive grade LVDS 2 x 2 crosspoint switches reduce power consumption.

The PowerWise crosspoints from National Semiconductor consume as little as 105mW/channel and combine with the company’s line drivers and receivers to reduce power consumption and heat dissipation in automotive applications such as infotainment, instrument cluster displays, GPS navigation and back-up and lane departure camera warning systems.
The LVDS family is certified to AEC-Q100. LVDS is a differential signalling technology that is suitable for automotive use as it provides low power operation and high bandwidth with little EMI. The wide LVDS common mode and differential technology deliver noise immunity, which combined with the low EMI is critical as electronic systems proliferate through the automobile in areas such as ignition, PowerTrain management, infotainment and safety.
The eight devices include 2 x 2 crosspoint switches, a set of single and dual differential drivers and receivers and a dual line driver and receiver pair. Each device is AEC-Q100 grade 3 certified and operates at up to 85°C.
The PowerWise DS25CP102Q 2 x 2 crosspoint switch has a low jitter performance of 6ps (typical) at data transmission rates up to 3.125Gbit/sec, claimed to be an industry-best. It has selectable transmit pre-emphasis and receive equalisation to extend signal transmission each in cables and FR-4 backplanes. It is supplied in a 16pin LLP package.
The PowerWise DS25CP152Q 2 x 2 LVDS crosspoint switch, without signal conditioning has the same transmission rates and package.
The DS10CP152Q 2 x 2 LVDS crosspoint switch, without signal conditioning, provide 1.5Gbit/sec data transmission and is supplied in a 16pin SOIC.
The DS90LV011AQ LVDS differential line driver and DS90LT012AQ LVDS differential line receiver support switching rates of up to 400Mbit/sec (200MHz) and are supplies in 5pin SOT-23 packages.
The DS90LV027AQ LVDS dual differential line driver supports up to 600Mbit/sec (300MHz) and the DS90LV028AQ LVDS dual differential line receiver and the DS90LV049Q LVDS dual line driver and receiver pair each support up to 400Mbit/sec (200MHz). The 27AQ and 28AQ are supplies in an 8pin SOIC and the 049Q is supplied in a 16pin TSSOP.
