Push-to-talk headset

30 September 2008

A push-to-talk headset allows military personnel to send and receive clear communications.

Battlefield environments are not known for being conducive to clear radio communications. The risk of misinterpretation or of giving away a location can have disastrous consequences.

McDowell Research, an Ultralife company, has developed the SOCOM-X next-generation tactical communications headset and push-to-talk system that allows a user simultaneous control of up to three radios, or two radios and a laptop or intercom.

It incorporates SPEAR technologies, such as superior hearing protection, sound localisation and amplification, push-to-talk features for all radio lines, and an enhanced ECM boom, or wind-proof microphone. The rugged, lightweight design is claimed to exceed military standards.
