Unorthodox testing proves sturdy qualities of data analyser.

Bruel & Kjaer have taken product road testing to a literal level by driving a Corvette over its LANXI data analyser in order to assess its robustness.
Built to conduct noise and vibration tests inside demanding environments such as aircraft and vehicle cabins, LANXI data acquisition hardware has a tough magnesium casing, which enabled it to endure being driven over several times by the car, proving that the new model could survive rough handling and still operate.
The company created LANXI using specifications set by customers, which included the product’s need for toughness, as well as portability. The magnesium case weighs 600g and the slim module fits inside a laptop bag, allowing users to carry it as hand luggage when travelling abroad. According to the manufacturer, LANXI can also withstand temperatures ranging from -10°C to +50°C, and is silent during operation as it has self-cooling vents instead of fans. It is also claimed that the multi channel LANXI is a piece of hardware that can perform any type of test, from simple two channels (such as resonance tests of wind turbine blades), to multi channel tests with several large rack systems for advanced noise source identification.
The system operates on a plug and play concept, running PoE (Power over Ethernet) or plugged into a mains socket with one LAN cable. The same LAN cable transfers the data to a laptop and provides power using PoE, as well as synchronising measurements between multiple, distributed A/D clocks using IEEE 1588 PTP (Precision Time Protocol) synchronisation.
