Touch and feel

20 January 2009

LCD touchscreens are no longer in the frame.

With the release of the 1900L and 2200L high resolution LCD touch monitors, Tyco Electronics’ Elo TouchSystems, aim to change the look and feel of touchscreen technology.

These are the first zero-bezel wide-aspect ratio touch monitors with a 100% useable surface area. The zero-bezel design removes the frame, or bezel, of standard monitors to create a seamless glass surface designed to showcase a widescreen, high-definition experience.

“One of our principal goals was to make our new touchscreens look less like computer monitors and more like a design element in the customer environment,” explains Servaas Kamerling, Elo TouchSystems’ Product Manager.

Combining Acoustic Pulse Recognition (APR) touch technology with a seamless screen, the 1900L and 2200L touchmonitors are designed for use in high-traffic retail, hospitality and other public environments. APR technology works by recognising the sound created when the monitor’s surface is touched, so users can interact with the touchscreens in the new 1900L and 2200L touchmonitors with virtually any kind of stylus; from a fingertip to the edge of a credit card. Both monitors also provide zero-drift performance and will never require recalibration, ensuring a long, low-maintenance functional life. The new touchmonitors can also be supplied with Elo’s IntelliTouch surface wave touch technology.

The screen is resistant to water, dust and grease, and the built-in, downward facing speakers provide robust audio quality. With bottom-mounted features such as integrated VGA and DVI (as standard in US only) video-input ports, touch-interface USB (APR) and serial jacks, AC-DC power and audio headphone jacks are virtually invisible to users. The base is designed to hide cables for increased security and visual simplicity, and side-mounted control buttons help prevent unintentional disruption by users.
