New power supplies win medical approval

The product on the supplement front cover is the new JB400 series AC-DC power supply from Powersolve Electronics, a unit that has full UL60601-1 & TUV EN60601-1 Medical Safety approvals.
The JB400 is a very compact 400 Watt power supply that measures only 203.2x127x40.64 mm in a U channel or 228.6x127x40.64 fully enclosed with integral cooling fan, which makes both versions suitable for use in a low profile 1U rack or enclosure. AC input is full range universal 90-264 VAC 47 6 3 Hz, with electronic Power Factor Correction to conform to EN61000-3-2 class D. Models are available with single output voltages of 3.3 V, 5 V, 12 V, 18 V, 24 V, 36 V & 48 V DC, but virtually any output voltage is available, to order, between the range of 2 V to 58 V DC. Dual output versions are also available with a primary of either +3.3 V, +5 V or +1.2 V and a secondary 12 V or 24 V DC.
Full output power is achieved with either 23 CFM of external airflow in the case of the U Channel version or by integral cooling fan with the fully enclosed model. Up to 250 Watts of output power is available with free air convection cooling.
Standard features include 12 VDC fan drive output, remote on/off, ‘Power Good’ signal & LED indicator, remote sense, remote voltage adjustment (margining) and current monitor. Optional features are single wire current sharing for up to four units in parallel and AC power fail signal.
This product is available with either medical or ITE safety approvals and can also be provided with optional high isolation between 0 V and earth to meet power over ethernet requirements.
In addition to the new JB400 Series, Powersolve offer a very wide range of medically approved AC-DC and DC-DC converters for a variety of applications and the following are just some of the products available today:-
The TMT series of power supplies offer output power ratings from 10 to 50 Watts in very compact PCB, chassis or DIN rail mounting plastic encapsulated enclosures. Input is 85-264 VAC, 47-63 Hz and versions are available with single, dual or triple output voltage combinations of 3.3 V, 5 V, 12 V, 15 V or 24 VDC. All units are safety class II and have medical safety approvals to cUL/UL60601-1, IEC/EN60601-1 and CB report. EMI suppression conforms to EN55022’B’ and FCC level B. These products have a high efficiency which is typically around 83% and operating temperature range is -25°C to +60°C. All models feature full short circuit and overload protection.
Another product recently introduced is a new range of compact, open PCB medically approved power supplies designated the MHP series. These products are available in power ratings of 40 W, 60 W and 100 W and all versions have a wide 90-264 VAC input at 47-63 Hz or 120-370 VDC. Single, dual, triple and quad output models are available with various output voltage combinations from 5 V to 48 VDC. The 40/60 W versions measure 101.6x50.8x30.5 mm and the 100 W unit is slightly larger at 114.3x63.5x30.5 mm. An optional metal enclosure is available for both sizes. All models feature overvoltage, overload and short circuit protection.
Medical safety approvals include UL60601-1, CSA22.2 601.1 and EN60601-1 and EMI suppression conforms to EN55022’B’. Operating temperature is 0 to +70°C with derating above +50°C.
Powersolve also offers a very wide range of medically approved external plug top and desk top power adaptors. The PPT30M series are plug top adaptors which feature interchangeable AC input plugs for UK, Europe, USA and Australia. Input is universal 90-264 VAC 47-63 Hz and six models are available with single outputs of 5 V, 9 V, 12 V, 15 V, 18 V and 24 VDC. DC outputs are via a 1.5 metre flying lead terminated to a 2.5x5.5x9.5 mm power plug. Various other options can be facilitated for the output connector. All models feature over voltage and continuous short circuit protection. Safety approvals include UL60601-1 and EN60601-1 and EMI suppression conforms to EN55022’B’.
Desk top adaptors are available in output power ratings of 50/60 Watts, 100 Watts and 130 Watts. The 50 W PSEM50 series have universal 90-264 VAC 47-63 Hz input and can be ordered with single, dual or triple DC outputs in various combinations from 5 V up to 48 VDC. AC input is via a 3 pin IEC inlet and outputs via a 1.2 metre flying lead terminated to a 5 pin DIN connector or optional customer specified version. Also available is the 60 W DPS50-M series with single outputs of 5 V, 12 V, 15 V, 24 V or 48 VDC. Again input is via a 3 pin IEC inlet and output is a 2 metre cable terminated in a 2.5x5.5x9.5 mm flying lead. The higher power 100 W PSEM100 & 130 W PSEM130 series feature universal 90-264 VAC 47-63 Hz input with electronic Power Factor Correction to meet the requirements of EN61000-3-2. The 100 W version offers single, dual or triple output models with voltage combinations from 5 V to 48 VDC, whereas the 130 W unit is available with single output only of 12 V or 24 VDC. All versions have cUL/UL60601-1 and EN60601-1 and EMI suppression conforms to EN55022’B’.
At higher power rating is the iMP Series products which are digitally controlled modular configurable AC-DC power supplies with output power ratings from 600 to 1500 Watts. These versatile products enable power supplies to be tailored to exact customer output requirements. Factory configured interchangeable output modules offer any DC output voltage from 2 V to 60 V giving designers a multitude of output variations to meet virtually any power requirement. Using these products a power supply could be configured from either a single output or up to 27 individual DC outputs. Input is universal 85-264 VAC with active Power Factor Correction to conform to EN61000-3-2. These power supplies have many standard features including Intelligent I²C Control, I²C monitoring of Voltage, Current and Temperature, I²C programming of Voltage, Current Limit and Inhibit/Enable, I²C monitoring of Elapsed Time and Configurable Current Sharing. They will operate over an industrial temperature range of -40 to +70°C.
Safety approvals include UL60601-1 and EN60601-1 and EMI suppression conforms to EN55022’B’.
In the DC-DC product range are the THI-2M series which are 2 Watt devices in an ultra compact 16 pin DIL PCB mounting package. These products offer 4000 VAC input to output isolation and reinforced insulation rated for a working voltage up to 300 VAC. DC inputs are 5 V, 12 V or 24 V and outputs are 5 V, 12 V, 15 V, ±12 V or ±15 VDC. Safety approvals include cUL/UL60601-1, IEC/EN60601-1 and CB report. These products are also available in an SMD package which is TES-2M series.
Going up the scale we have the THB-3/THB-6 series (wide 2:1 input range) and THP-3 series (ultra wide 4:1 input range) which offer 3 or 6 Watts in a 24 pin DIL package. Again both offer 4000 VAC input to output isolation and 300 VAC working voltage.
Various models are available covering inputs from 4.5 V to 160 VDC with output voltages of 5 V,12 V, ±12 V or ±15 VDC.
