The RC1 box computer, the first member of the MIPIOS family, was specially designed for mobile applications, complies with the EN 50155 railway standard, fulfills IP67 and is certified to E1. Through the use of Intel's Atom processor the user gets a guarantee for fast performance and a minimum availability of 7 years.
The Harsher, the MIPIOS!
The first member of the MIPIOS family from MEN is a fanless and maintenance-free box computer for extreme and harsh fields of application. The RC1 has a robust 220x130x86mm aluminum enclosure, complies with EN 50155 and IP67, and has an E1 approval of the German Federal Motor Transport Authority. Solid wall-mounting facilities make the unit resist even violent impacts. Based on Intel's Atom Z510 processor with 1.1 GHz, the RC1 is available in two standard varieties, depending on the type of application: one version without and one with a 3.5“ 4:3 color display with a resolution of 640x480 pixels, 262,144 colors and touch functionality, for service purposes.
The RC1 box computer is well placed in harsh, mobile and mission-critical applications – with or without visualization. Its field of application extends from hot, dry and dusty up to extremely humid or cold environments. In the mobile arena, this includes commercial vehicles like agricultural or construction machines, but also trains, buses or cable cars. The RC1 can also be used in the fields of avionics, medical engineering and industrial automation.
All I/O interfaces of the box computer are accessible on robust 8-pin M12 connectors at the front. They include 2 Fast Ethernet interfaces and a service interface with USB and RS232. Two slots are available for additional I/O options that can be implemented using special SA-Adapter kits. The onboard FPGA of the RC1 allows the integration of further interfaces such as CAN bus, RS485, IBIS or binary I/O. A second power input makes it possible to connect a backup power source, for example a battery, to make the application safe for power failure. As a power class S2 unit, the RC1 remains functional despite power interruption for up to 10 ms.
The 512 MB RAM and 2 GB Flash memory offer sufficient space for the application. A PCI Express Mini card and a SIM card slot can be used to add wireless functionality like Bluetooth, WLAN, WIMAX, GSM/GPRS or UMTS. For this case two optional N-Type antenna connectors can be made available at the front panel.
What is MIPIOS?
MIPIOS is a family of extremely rugged modular computer components such as box computers, Ethernet switches, PSUs and I/O devices. The units were designed for wall mounting (optionally DIN-rail mounting) - even in extreme and mobile applications - and communicate with each other using Ethernet. The stainless aluminum enclosure, which all MIPIOS products have in common, is dust- and waterproof according to IP67 and protects against violent impacts. With a maximum power dissipation of 10 watts, MIPIOS products are always fanless; conduction cooling brings the heat to the outside of the housing. All electronic components are soldered to withstand shock and vibration and prepared for conformal coating. MIPIOS complies with the EN 50155, class Tx railway standard, and runs in a -40 to +70°C operating temperature environment.
