Aimed at enterprise applications for manufacturing, the new Polycom KIRK 6020 and KIRK 6040 handsets use all of the SC14450’s extensive processing power and feature set to offer professional DECT phones with an intuitive user interface.

“We have chosen the SC14450 because it offers a state-of-the-art design platform for implementing the advanced features that are a must in today’s enterprise solutions together with the flexibility to easily add future enhancements,” says Dion Nielsen, R&D Technologies Manager at Polycom.

In addition to the proven DECT and voice capabilities that SiTel’s SC14450 provides handset manufacturers, it is the chipset’s inherent processing performance and flexibility that come to the fore in high-end feature phones. By supporting a full graphics user interface, DECT handsets can incorporate large colour-displays offering an experience similar to a mobile phone.

The large display in KIRK 6020 and KIRK 6040 handsets is used for differentiating between different categories of alert icons, making it easy for the mobile workers to quickly determine the degree of emergency. Another benefit of the graphical colour icons used in the new KIRK handsets is that they are not restricted by language boundaries, so can be understood worldwide.

Minimal power consumption, as part of SiTel’s Green DECT portfolio, helps deliver extended battery life. That allows users to move freely about the office while staying in touch whether they prefer to use the telephone or communicate using a wireless headset.

“With the KIRK 6020 and KIRK 6040 handsets, Polycom has pushed the boundaries of incorporating features in DECT enterprise handsets by utilising all the capabilities of the SC14450 which has shown just how flexible this chipset really is,” commented Jos van der Loop, Product Manager at SiTel. “It is a great experience to be partnering with Polycom and seeing how the SC14450 easily handles all the features and more.”

The SC14450 processor uses SiTel’s proven multi-core architecture to deliver 240 MIPS of processing power. It features a 16bit CompactRISC processor, plus two user-programmable Gen2DSPs. It can run the various audio codecs and best-in-class acoustic echo cancellation and other embedded applications.

In addition, the SC14450 supports a variety of external memories, and features an integrated class D amplifier, power and battery management options, a white LED driver and a wide variety of peripheral interfaces including master / slave PCM, UART, SPI, dual-access bus and USB client.
