Bridge over illuminated water

LED bulbs could be used to light-up part of York's Millennium Bridge.

As part of an energy efficiency drive by the city's council, LED bulbs may be employed in illuminating York's Millennium Bridge.
Over the past few months, part of the Bar Walls near Lendal Bridge has been brought to life with a multitude of different coloured lights as part of a pilot project.
Now, it is hoped that a similar trial could take place on Millennium Bridge in an initiative to use energy-efficient lights more creatively.
A spokeswoman from the City of York Council said that there has already been a good response to the Bar Walls project. “We're looking at evaluating each section of lights to see what is needed and, where possible, replace them with more efficient LEDs or colour changing lights for festivals,” she stated.
The £4.2 million crossing across the River Ouse was opened on 10 April 2001 and received the royal seal of approval from the Duke of York in May of the same year.
