11 May 2010
CEA’s Portable, Handheld and In-Vehicle Technology Committee has launched a new working group; R6 WG17.

The Consumer Electronics Association’s (CEA) working group will address technical issues in wireless charging, including standardising test procedures to measure power use of wireless charging devices.
“Wireless charging is emerging as a strong market, as evidenced by the wide array of wireless charging devices unveiled at the 2010 International CES,” said Brian Markwalter, Vice President of Research and Standards for CEA. “CEA’s new Wireless Charging working group reinforces the tremendous potential for this growing product category, and our goal is to establish standards and guidelines that support future innovations.”
Chaired by John Suh, Staff Researcher, Advanced Technology Office, General Motors, the working group will develop standards, recommended practices and documentation related to wireless charging. “The potential for future innovations in wireless charging is immense,” said Suh. “As the market continues to mature, it is essential that the industry develop standards and recommendations that will undoubtedly lead to advancements in wireless charging technology and devices across multiple platforms.”
