Why the e-Legacy Awards really do matter to you

17 August 2010

I'm going to ask you to do something and then explain why I think it's important for the electronics industry in the UK – so please stick with me...

Tim Fryer

The task, should you wish to accept it, is to vote in our e-Legacy awards. It is a process that can take a couple of minutes just by following this link and selecting your favourites amongst this years’ finalists. If you want to spend a bit of time looking in more depth at the individual entries then I would be delighted if you would, the information is all there if you want it. So casting your votes can take as little or as long a time as you are prepared to give it.

If you are going to do it, do it now! Voting closes this Friday (20 August 2010)

The reasons for voting are simple. The e-Legacy Awards are not the same as other industry accolades which deal with technology and technology alone. The e-Legacy awards reward technology companies for their approach to society and how the application of their technology improves society as a whole. They really do have significance for the future of our industry and our society. For this reason we do not decide the winners by a select band of judges, although we do have a judging panel to get the finalists down to a manageable number. We think it important that the electronics industry chooses the winners itself so that the winners are the companies that encourage and inspire the rest of industry to follow in their path.

There is always a danger that someone like me, who genuinely cares and believes in the e-Legacy awards scheme, gets too evangelistic about them, and people who preach can get a bit wearing. So I won’t, except to say that your vote is an important part of what e-Legacy is all about, so please find time to do so.

Many thanks.
