NI offers software grants
28 May 2010
National Instruments has launched its 2010 programme to support embedded developers
in the SME environment.
It is a huge progression from the scheme launched in 2009 that was aimed at providing training for unemployed scientists and engineers. This year small to medium sized companies can apply for grants that could cover not just training, but also the costs of software and support up to a value of £25,000.
Ian Bell, NI's Market Development Manager, explained: “What we are trying to do is bridge the gap between universities and start-ups. We are very supportive of academia and very supportive of large companies, but there is a bit of a gap at the lower end. Students would have easy access to our tools at university, but having to face buying them commercially as soon as they start-up their own companies. We are looking for the most innovative and exciting projects, particularly in the green and medical arenas.”
Applicants don’t need to be existing National Instruments’ customers, but the hardware needs to be on their roadmap and a National Instruments field engineer would need to support the entry. The scheme is open to companies in the UK and Ireland and runs until the end of November, although these awards can be made as the scheme progresses – there is no finite fund that will only be distributed after the scheme ends.
"National Instruments UK and Ireland is committed to supporting innovation," said Robert Morton, Managing Director. "Through this grant programme, National Instruments is supporting scientists and engineers based in the UK and Ireland who are developing innovative solutions to the grand challenges the world faces in energy, sustainability and healthcare.” Readers can visit ni.com/uk/grant to learn more about the grant programme and download the application.
