Electronica app for an on-the-go guide
25 October 2010
With electronica just weeks away it is time to garner your thoughts, decide who you want to see and find out where they are. And guess what… there’s an app for that!

Some people do like to bury their heads in the sand when it comes to big events, especially if they are not going to be able to go. It’s a bit like showing no interest in the cup final because your team is not in it.
But through our weekly newsletters in October we have mostly chosen to feature products that will be making their debuts in Munich’s cavernous exhibition halls from 9-12 November. The idea being that you can either pick out highlights that you want to follow up at electronica, or if you are not going it allows you to pay interest in the technology without having the full on exhibition experience.
So for those included in the latter category, please enjoy the rest of this newsletter and the others in the build-up to the show, but look away from the rest of this blog now!
For those left I wish to share with you the news that you can now carry all the salient points about the exhibition in your mobile phone. Electronica has launched ‘EasyExpoNavigation’ which is an app on the iPhone and a browser-based tool on other phones.
The iPhone application is primarily designed to make it easier for visitors to electronica 2010 to search for exhibitors and products. However, it also includes a number of points of interest such as forums, restaurants, public transport stops, as well as a list of events.
Plans of the Munich Trade Fair Center and the individual exhibition halls are integrated in the application. As are flight departure times from Munich Airport and departure times of means of transport operated by the Munich Public Transport Authority from the Munich Trade Fair Center.
ExpoEasyNavigation, a new trade fair software developed with infsoft GmbH, Grossmehring, can be used via two media channels, i.e. an application and the browser variant. The application can be used with iPhone, iPad and iPod. In addition to the above-mentioned functions, it also offers real-time navigation, e.g. from the visitor’s current location to the required exhibitor or a point of interest. Since the location is always updated in real time, the visitor knows his precise position at all times. One other advantage: after it has been downloaded, the application is used offline. This means that visitors to electronica will not incur any roaming fees when using the application.
The browser variant is available for all smart phones and features the same options as the application apart from real-time navigation. Instead of route guidance, the user sees a map with markings when selecting his destination.
The application can be downloaded from the electronica website at the end of October. There is also a full preview of the show, including our selected product highlights, on our website.
