The new kid on the block
02 August 2011
As you may have read in Tim’s last comment, he's moving onto other projects. Tim has successfully presided over EPD for the last three years and done a brilliant job in maintaining it as the UK’s top electronics design journal.

I’m sure you will join me and the rest of the EPD team to wish Tim all the best in his new role at Premises and Facilities Management.
My own background in this industry started with a BSc Electronics Systems from the University of the West of Scotland. After graduating I have exclusively worked in media and marketing in electronics; publishing, agency and internal roles. I hope this experience has given me a varied perspective of the industry, one that will allow me to choose the most relevant news and features. The one thing in common with all these roles was that the final recipients were Design Engineers.
EPD has always been focussed on bringing UK Design Engineers the latest news, products and features from manufacturers as well as news from governmental and regulatory bodies. I will continue those themes and maintain the high standard of editorial that Tim has set. I would also like to investigate new methods of reaching the readership, especially those that offer a two-way dialogue.
The global downturn has transformed the electronics industry. The publishing industry has also changed beyond recognition. With that in mind I will shortly be looking to organise one or more short surveys so we can provide the editorial material that is of interest to you and reflect the changing face of the UK electronics industry. I’d really appreciate it if you could take a couple of minutes of your time to complete these surveys.
It would also be great to hear your views on using social media for professional purposes. I’ve created a Twitter account @EPDEditorial where you can let me know what you think, or if you prefer you can mail me on: alistair.winning@imlgroup.co.uk.
I am also looking at doing some electronics projects myself for EPDonthenet. I’ve got my hands on a couple of dev kits, but am still not sure whether to use a professional kit, or maybe it would be better to reacquaint myself within programming using a hobbyist type kit. Feel free to contact me with your views or advice on Twitter or email. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
Alistair
