And the winners are...

Last Tuesday saw our best ever turnout for the fifth e-Legacy awards ceremony at the Kensington Roof Gardens.

The reason for the awards, as I’m sure you have read in our recent magazines and newsletters, is to celebrate the part the electronics industry plays in making the world a greener and more sustainable place.

This year we had over 3,000 readers vote for their favourite contestants. There was an Ansmann-sponsored remote controlled car offered as a prize for taking part in the voting, and that was won by Colin Duffy from GHA Livigunn, whose three boys were very proud.

When the dust settled, out of all the starting nominations, there were eight winners and another fourteen presented with commemorative certificates for their outstanding contributions to the environment.

I’m sure you’ll join me in congratulating the overall winners of each section, who were:
• Contribution for Sustainability – Mouser
• Environmental Design - HiWave
• Alternative Energy – National Semiconductor
• Green Product of the Year - Fairchild
• Investment to Education and Training – UK Electronics Skills Foundation (UKESF)
• Green Manufacturing – Conexant
• Medical Advances – On Semiconductor
• Contribution to Security - Lantronix

I’d just like to mention again the variety of companies and technologies featured. We had nominations from large multinationals, smaller companies, specialist groups as well as academia.

For me personally, the awards were a brilliant opportunity to catch up with old friends and meet new people. This is invaluable when returning to publishing after a period in industry.

Most people took the chance of doing some networking; both at the event and the traditional pub visit afterwards. There were a few interesting conversations there that I am looking forward to see if they come to fruition in the months ahead, both for EPD and in the industry!

As for the event itself, the venue was spectacular as usual and the weather even behaved. There were also some incredible close-up magic tricks from entertainer Richard Bellers who left a trail of stunned faces in his wake.

Thanks again to our sponsors who helped make it happen, everyone who turned up to make it a brilliant day, and finally those readers who took the time to vote. If you managed to make it along, I hope you had a great day, and if you weren’t there, I hope to see you next year.
